Sts. Isaac Jogues and Rene Goupil

Oh my goodness…can you imagine having your hair ripped from your head and your fingers bitten through because you were a Christian? Can you imagine being tomahawked to death for making the Sign of the Cross? I almost hear the Saint’s as they whisper, ‘listen n learn, Deborah, listen n learn’. And we Catholic’s complain if our church isn’t comfortably warmed…

Their shrine (Shrine of the Canadian Martyrs, Midland Ontario) is an hour away from me. I stood in the place where they were martyred, and we celebrated mass ten feet away from that spot. It is a strange (glorious, sad, scary) feeling to realize this is the same world after all, where all these things took place, and may some day take place again.

That is amazing! You’re quite right that it is indeed the same world, and even in these times catholics are martyred. We should have moved on by now really, shouldn’t we 😦
