St. Evaristus, Pope & Martyr ~ 26th October

st-evaristus.jpg

A convert to Christianity and a faith filled Catholic, Evaristus thought himself unworthly of being Pope, but God’s will won out and in his 8 year rule Pope Evaristus’ love of the faith was like ripples on a pond, reaching across the lands so that a great many people converted to Catholicism. It was a dangerous time to be  Pope though and he was captured by the Romans and put to death, but before he died (107), Evaristus spoke of how joyous it would be to die for Christ.

It’s hard enough for me to get my head around dying to self, let alone dying for Christ….can you imagine living with just one shard of such faith in your heart?
