Brilliant Bargains ….

On a recent jaunt around the charity shops of Northwich, Wondergirl and I made the rather excellent discovery of some of the ‘Talking Classics’ series, which come complete with an informative magazine about the series/film and cassette taped recordings.

the cassette taped recordings of the book/series/film are all read by a celebrity/classic actor.

Pictured above is the Brideshead Revisited magazine and box of two cassette taped recording of the film.

 Guess how much it cost?

Okay, i’ve no patience, i’ll tell you.

The magazine and tapes came to a total of 50p.

Yes.

50 pence.

So guess what?

Since I’d bagged such a bargain i went on to  buy a bunch of others in the ‘Talking Classics’ series… each set of magazine and tapes only 50p each…I ended up with Brideshead Revisited, The Thirty-Nine Steps, Rebecca, the Picture of Dorian Gray and Tess of the D’urbervilles…

A little while later i was fortunate to spot, in another charity shop, a cd from the ‘Talking Classics’ series for 50p , ignore the label, it cost me a good deal less (no magazine came with this bargain though)…this time it was Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre I came across….swoon….i am such a fan of Bronte’s ‘Jane Eyre’ and was delighted to find it.

And there’s mooooooooore…

In yet another charity shop i discovered a sealed copy of  ‘Mozart’s Musical Masterpieces’.

You’ll never guess how much i paid for it….

What?

You guessed already?

Yup, that’d be 50p.

You did good, Girl! Woohoo! I love books on tape and we get them a lot!! I must ask…(sorry)..How does 50 pence compare to the dollar? I have no idea what our exchange rate is. In any event, I am sure it was a bargain. Audiobooks are expensive here!!

Rosemary, £1 is equivalent to $1.6 dollars…and 50p is half of £1 so that is half of $1.6. Basically, i hardly paid anything at all.

  4. Cathy says:

    You did indeed “do good.”

  5. Alexa says:
